Tips for Boosting Your Energy
Saying no… Over committing yourself is one of the fastest ways to feel frazzled. Saying
‘no’ doesn’t have to be a big deal – it’s just giving yourself breathing space to recognise what you really want.
Before you automatically say yes, stop and take a minute to decide if you actually want to, and whether or not it fits in with
your current priorities.
Stretch more… Stretching your body is a super way to boost your energy as it enhances your circulation, which oxygenates parts of your body where things may have been a little sluggish. Whether you’re in an office all day or out and about, there’s always an opportunity to stretch out a bit more and enjoy the buzz.
Cut down on caffeine… Ok, here’s a biggie. While you may enjoy the caffeine hit your body
doesn’t enjoy the dehydration. As we seldom drink enough water, we’re often dehydrated to start with and adding diuretics such as
caffeine to the equation just makes it worse.
Increase your fresh water and reduce the coffee, cola and chocolate – you can substitute with herbal teas & enjoy their many benefits too.
Worry less… Worry is often just a habit and frequently turns out to be unjustified. Yet we deplete our energy by creating a story about what might happen. When you feel yourself getting into the worry mind-space, take some deep breaths to relax, talk about it with a friend or enjoy some quiet time to just chill out.
Go on a detox… It’s like a spring clean for your body – try a period of no alcohol, caffeine, decrease sugar intake, cut back on junk food, red meat & dairy foods and increase your natural, raw food intake along with plenty of fresh water and you will be amazed at how your energy levels increase.
Avoid negative people… Negative related words zaps your energy like a vacuum in the same way that positively feeds back to you. Where you are able, remove yourself from environments and people who leave you feeling depleted, and seek out positive people, places and things.
Address your de-energisers… These are the little niggles that we plan to do some time but
just keep putting off. Every time we think of them we feel our energy drain away. This might be the scratched sunglasses that annoy you
each time you put them on, the drawer that sticks and the pile of paperwork you’ve been meaning to file. Make a list and tackle the
easiest one today.
Work out… Exercise is the most important way for our bodies to feel fit and have lots of energy. Endorphins are released out of our body while we work out; this is like natures Happy Pill. Even a 10-minute walk around the block in the fresh air will give you a boost of energy and improve your mood.
Get plenty of sleep… Sleep is our body’s time for repair & restoration which sets us up for the next day’s activities by feeling revitalised, rested and ready to go again. If you are not sleeping comfortably and sufficiently, you will be in negative balance and then still have the day to get through. Assess your bed for comfort & support; sleeping everyday on a lumpy bed will just not do it.
